Teak patio furniture is durable in all kinds of weather.  It can be used and left outside during rain showers and sunny days.  The way your teak furniture looks after years in the elements depends somewhat on the kind of finish you choose for it.

You can choose a natural finish or a patina finish.  Paint is not an option because it will not stick to teak very well.  The oils prevent it from adhering.  You need to choose which of the other two types of finishes you would enjoy.  A natural finish is a rich, deep golden brown wood color.  Many people prefer this type of finish for their outdoor furniture.  It has the look of luxury.  However, if you decide to keep the natural finish, it will require some work on your part.  You will have to wash the furniture carefully and dry it.  Only after it has completely dried can you set the finish.  Do this by applying a special teak protector that you can purchase from the maker of your teak patio furniture. 

You should put it on every season to get the best effect.  A different finish can be acquired with a lot less work.  For a silvery-gray patina, all you have to do is expose your teak patio furniture to the rain.  Over time, the patina will develop and you will have interesting pieces of furniture.  All you have to do to maintain it is to wash it carefully with soap and water.
